PAPA Relaunched for 2005

The PAPA facility and pinball collection were rebuilt in anticipation of holding the PAPA 8 World Pinball Championships in 2005. Cleanup work was completed in October 2004, building repairs were completed by April 2005, and the tournament was held in August 2005.

A major factor in deciding to rebuild was the huge level of support found in feedback from everyone after the flood. Players, collectors, vendors, and other enthusiasts sent hundreds of e-mails, and we appreciated every single one.

Through this Web site, we sought and received extensive feedback regarding appropriate dates for the PAPA 8 tournament. We had originally planned to hold the tournament September 15-18, but feedback was heavily in favor of a mid-August date. Based on the expectation that California Extreme will be held the last weekend in August, we selected the official dates of PAPA 8 as August 11-14, 2005.

Oh, you might be wondering about the pinball machines. The original collection had 232 games, of which 172 were present at PAPA 7. For PAPA 8, we planned to have more than 300 machines present for play. (For the record, we had 277 functioning pinball machines available.) The tournament was bigger and better than PAPA 7!

Our thanks go out to everyone who provided feedback!
